Hi, one of my friends in Holland wants to know if there are any box turtles which she can get that would be able to live in an outdoor fenced garden there. She particularly needs to find out sources for buying any that will be ok.

Box turtles in Holland?

I would think they would have to find one in Europe or maybe England. I could be wrong but I don't think box turtles are legally allowed to be exported out of the US. I think red eared sliders can, but I think there are limits on box turtles.
I've heared of people in England that keep north american species. Maybe there are breeders over there.

Thanks, I'll see if I can find a box turtle breeder in England that can ship to Holland. Also, my friend des fly occasionally to Scotland so maybe there's a way for her to bring a turtle back with her from Britain. I'm going to check on the importation of reptiles laws in Holland for her. She says in Holland only tropical type indoor turtles are available.

Plenty of people are breeding them in Europe, but they are VERY expensive to purchase, on the order of $250 US and UP.
They are considered very exotic there.
