Vertical or Horizontal caging?????

Chameleon996 Nov 08, 2004 10:54 AM

Right now Gomez is in a 5x3x3 long all screen cage. It has a removable hide and a removable basking shelf with a log that goes from floor to ceiling. He spends most of his time on the basking shelf or laying on the log which acts like a sliding board for him to get off the shelf. I was wondering if I should stand his cage upright and add a few more shelves? Is it better for an iguana to have the floor space or the height?

Well, iguanas are arboreal lizards, which means they spend most of their time up high on the trees. You should provide lots of places for him/her to climb. I think both height and floor space are important. But don't forget the branches, lots of them.
What size is he/she?

I know they are arboreal thats what got me thinking about standing his cage up. Gomez is a rescue that is estimated to be about 3 years old, he is 16 inches STV with a 14 inch tail. Obviously he is missing most of his tail. I don't know how it happened.

Verical. In my humble opinion,a good size for an adult iguana is 7Hx4Dx4L.

So it would be better if I stood it up?
