Which Bairds Species?

AlteredMind99 Nov 08, 2004 01:23 PM

I have become REALLY interested in the Bairds rat snakes and have decided that they will be the next snake i add to my collection. Here is my question...from what i gather there are two species of Bairds, the mexican and...something else. (Sorry!) My questions is, which of the two grows into the beautiful silver gray adult with the multitude of colors showing beneath the scales?

thanks!

texas and mexican bairdis are the two most commonly known species (i'm not sure if they're the only two.) the texas will get the silver gray scales, the mexican will get more yellow scales. both will have the colors showing through. texas bairdis are more stunning, with the bright colors through the silver/gray, while mexicans are more soothing, mellow yellow/brownish scales with colors showing through, however they are just as bright but with less contrast they arent as stunning.

I'm not 100% on which locale of Baird's looks like what. If I'm not mistaken, all Baird's are the same species, just different localities. Texas and Mexican Baird's are just two different locales, with more specific locales in each, i.e. Davis Mtns.
