How frequently to you mist???

aliaime Nov 08, 2004 01:46 PM

I am using a spray bottle to create humidity in my Boa's enclosure. How many times must I mist the enclosure? Do I mist the snake as well?

It can depend on the species, size, cage, substrate, daytime and nighttime temps, ventilation, and other things too..

I have some high humidity loving animals on mulch with less ventilation . They usually get sprayed once a week, or so to keep the mulch fairly moist.

I have most others on newspaper and since I don't get the chance to give them all personal baths I do like to mist several days a week.

If you see mold build up, this is bad - you need to make a dryer environment.

If you seem to always mist and it is always dry, you need to fix your set-up so to hold more humidity.

I have a shoe-box rack that has little ventilation and lots of heat - the boxes stay fogged up. I had to create ventialtion and mist less to fix.

I have balls on mulch and it was never retaining moisture, leading to incomplete sheds. I had to seal/tape almost all ventilation holes and now it retains moisture and they shed 100%.

Hope this helps.. thanks much, Joe Rollo - BciJoe
