Thinking of purchasing a Red-foot Tortoise.

dannygirl8 Nov 08, 2004 04:19 PM

We are thinking about getting my son (and us) a red footed tortoise. I have an area about 4'x4' that is shaded all the time ( it's under my sons gym set) We could house him there. If not, I have a patio that is half mud and have slab (the mud area is about 2 1/2'deep and about 6' wide). The patio area would receive sunlight some part of the day. We were thinking a making this area into a bird sanctuary for our quaker parrot and cockatiel during pretty days. I don't think the birds would bother the tortoise.
Any suggestions on which set up would be better.

...please do your home work throughly before taking them home...and spare a little time checking out (many a Red-foot topics in this forum) so you could avoid some uneccesary pitfall people made earlier...

...the good thing is that you're planning to house them outdoor, it could be the best to their benefit if you do it right...

...the bad thing is neither of your dimensions are adequate, depending what size your new bambino is, even with just one; an RF can get to a foot long in size...by the time you drop in a condo...a puddle here...plant a few clumps there...your bambino hardly had room to roam...unless you're planning to turn him into a contortionistortuguru to join a sideshow?

...i rather stop here before Sunrise and let them serious "RF BRIGADE" take you over some of their (yuk) technical stuffs and you can bet they will all over you very soon...
