6 Year old E. King

mattcbiker Nov 08, 2004 05:06 PM

My Eastern King is just about 6 years old. I don't have an exact measurement, but I'd say she's about 50 inches long. She hasn't stopped growing yet, but I'm wondering what kind of growth rates I can expect at this age. Could she ever get to be 5 feet? She scarfs down an adult mouse every 5-7 days. Thanks! - Matt

but you'll have to feed her more like 2-3 grown mice once a week. Also ensure temps are just right not too warm not too cold (with good humidity). This will ensure fast growth. I keep mine around 80-84 degrees and 72-77 at night (30 years exp.) The results: I have yearlings (easterns and corns)that are 3 foot and over (check my new post above). My Eastern Indigo is a yearling and is already 4.5 foot. So I know the temps MUST be right LOL! Good luck with yours!

Growth rates for your snake should be around 3-6 inches a year at the age and size you indicated. I have a Kingsnake that is probably older than yours (purchased at undetermined age) and he was 74" this spring and now is 76" - a growth of 2 inches. Not bad for the big guy! Hope that helps a little. . .

Thanks Blue for the great info! Recently I've been stepping up feeding; at least 2 jumbo mice a week and an occasional small rat. She'd eat everyday if I let her. - Matt
