Getting a baby...feeding?

AuroraWolf Nov 08, 2004 06:30 PM

Before I make my corn snake purchase, I'm being a smart pet owner and getting all my supplies first, and I have a mouse question.

How many pinkies does a baby corn snake usually go through before moving up to fuzzies? I need to buy some, but I'm not sure how many to get to start off with. Any advice?

If you can buy them in bulk i would buy a package of about 50. This way you have plenty and feeding lots of small meals is always better than feeding one huge meal, so you win either way!

It really depends on how fast they grow. I fed my babies 1 pinky every 5-6 days. When the meal didn't show a bulge then I fed 2-3 pinkies before moving up to fuzzies. Usually by the time they are 6-7 months old they can take a fuzzie but it depends on the individual. I have a 16 month old honduran milk that is still on fuzzies. He will only eat 2-3 at a time vs taking an adult mouse.
Like the other post says you should be ok with 50 or so to start.

Ok, 50 to start with sounds good. Do you think it would be a good idea to get 50 pinkies and maybe 25 fuzzies? Aparently they have a freezer life of 3 years, so I'd like to get a good amount because shipping is almost $30.

Thanks!

When I buy frozen rodents, i go all out. I buy as many as possible because, as you said, you have to pay shipping regardless. So I say, go for broke!

$30? With a three year life span? (i'm trying to figure out who you're ordering from...)

I'd reccomend to go to www.bigcheeserodents.com and order from them. shipping will be way under $30, they vacuum seal their rodents, they are fresh, my friend has taken a tour of their facilities and sent me pics before - extremly clean.

Their service is second to none, I have shopped with other companies and I am a very unsatisfied customer. (namely rodentpro)

I've dealt with other companies, seen their prices, and dont like them.

50 and 25 sound like a good amount but i don't know about them lasting 3 years (you will use them up way before then anyways). i've heard they last more like 6 months to a year.
i just buy a few at a time at a near by Petco. since mine are on all something different.

Jungle carpet eats large rats
2 corns on adult mice
honduran milk and a gopher eating fuzzies.

I like buying them as i need them.
P.S. once you have one snake you will want more!
