You'd have to check with a nursery about the cutting. Some Ficus varieties are viny so it might work, but don't know about the Ficus species we tend to use in cages. If you have a cham species that doesn't tend to nibble on plants the rubber plant would not be toxic. But, rubber plants are not great to use for other reasons...the leaves may not hold water well for drinking, they won't hold the cham's weight if it climbs on them, and the plant's growth habit doesn't provide many good climbing branches for cage structure.

Hi Michelle,
have you done any propagating? Ficus can be prop by cuttings by using a rooting hormone (a or b) and supplying bottom heat (prop mat).

As for Rubber Plant - b/c of the size of the leaf they will ooze a good amount of latex (toxic if swallowed, can be a skin/eye/nasal irritant) so even if you own a non-plant eating species I would steer clear of it as the leaves are sure to break.

Hope this helps! Here is a basic link to prop
