leo with a hernia

aimee_s Nov 08, 2004 11:51 PM

hi everyone~

i was speaking with someone who is giving me their leopard gecko. she says that he has a hernia which gives his stomach a little bulge. when i asked about additional care, she said none was needed. i feel as if i shouldn't handle him as much because i'm thinking that his abdomen is weak and won't tolerate handling very well. regardless, i still want to take care of the leo as i've done with the partially blind albino one i had last year.

any ideas on how to treat him with the hernia? thanks~

a hernia sounds very serious, i would take it to a vet. it might be a mistaken diagnosis, and the result of insuffisient calcium instead or something.

yeah when she told me, i was more concerned about his health and safety and how i can improve his well-being. i re-read her email and she said that his stomach appears "unusual" and not that there's a bulge. i always provide dusted meals and have a little calcium cup, so if it is a calcium deficit, then he'll have more than enough in my house

also, if i do purchase the leo this week, i will post a picture of it's "unusual" stomach. it MIGHT be a mistaken diagnosis, because don't vets fix that? she never told me if he was.... so i'll be sure to ask

thank you marla

If you are paying for him then why dont you just buy a different one? One that is healthy and wont be very expensive in the long run, like the vet bills and stuff.
