I myself am currently tryingto decide how many and which dragons to hold back.

My question is, at what age/size do you make your decision to hold them back?

So far I picked a couple out for myself based on size/feeding/vitality, but when selecting for color potential it seems pretty much a crap shoot, so I was wondering how you decide.

Thanks,
Paul Kemes

Hey Paul,

That's a hard question to answer bc there are a lot of variables that determine that for us, such as how many we want to hold back, how much space, and so on.

Also, a lot of our lines we know what the babies look like that turn out with the "best color" and "patterns" that we can pick out of the clutch pretty well after a few days out of the egg.

But, to make it easy, if we were just looking at a clutch of dragons and were trying to pick out the ones to hold back, we would pick the largest and healthiest ones, with the best appetite and good personality. Obviously after their first shed it's pretty easy to tell which ones to keep, but after about two weeks we normally get a very good idea of how they will turn out at least for the first two months. After that, they change a lot it's hard to say for sure.

Hope that helped,

Hey Robert,

Thanks a lot. Yea, your right.. it's awesome how dragons can change.. that's the fun part of them I think. Yea, the Tamataves are very cool, do you keep them?
