Help getting uro. fimbriatus to eat

vipergeck0 Nov 09, 2004 11:25 AM

I have a pair in a 2ft long, 2ft deep, 4ft high enclosure. Humidity is between 85-95% and temp is between 72-78F. I've offered super worms and crickets with no sucess. I've only had them for about half a week but I'm beginning to worry. They do however seem to be in good health. Any help is much appreciated. Oh, they are adults. I got them in a small tupperware with moss and sticks and there were about half a dozen lobster roaches but i removed them so i could breed them. Should i try to feed them these? The only problem is the only way I could get more is through the internet.

Hi,

When I got mine Uroplatus phantasticus, I did´nt see them eat before 5-7 days after they came to their new home.

So I don´t think you have reason to be worried.

you may want to try a smaller enclosure for a few days to see if you can monitor the eating. DON'T move the lizard from cage to cage to see if they'll eat. do a single change over and leave them there until they start eating. the problem with moving them from their normal cage to a feeder cage temporarily is they have to deal with you first. i've tried this with many things mainly crested geckos and they rarely eat right away after changing cages. i wouldn't start to worry until you KNOW they haven't eating for more than 5 days. they should willingly take crickets and be sure to spray them directly a couple times a day and make sure you SEE them drinking. spraying them and not watching is not enough.

Our fimbriatus will not eat worms or crickets, we feed them mostly roaches of different varieties, which they seem to love. Lobsters, orange heads, six spots, discoids, any of those work well.

Thanks for all your replies, usually its hard to get one but you guys came through big and took a load off me. I was really getting worried. They were in an enclosure half that size but it looked really cramped so after a day or two i moved them. So actually they have been moved twice (probably stressed!). I will try the roaches tonight. I can monitor their food intake pretty well though in this enclosure. I use a big plastic dog dish with moist paper towels on the bottom and put the crix and superworms there. Thanks again,

Jack
