Cave Rats

Just aquired a netonate cave Rat at a show. It is my first of this sbsps though I have kept every other kind of Asian rat/racer...Any special requirements?

Mine do best cool. I keep them at 76F or under. Also humid hide box seems to be a big benefit for this spp. (more so than many of my other Asians). Keep the stress level low for the first few days and you will probably have an eating machine on your hands after that. Mine also tend to dislike handling and excess traffic in front of their cage.

Last night I was laying in bed looking up at the stars in the sky and I thought to myself, "Where the hell is my ceiling?"

Were you at Deerfield Sunday? That's where I got the Blue Beauty mentioned below......

Thanks guys. Fed him last night and he wolfed down a hopper mouse. Stared at me this morning with pure evil in his eyes (lol).

Yes I got him at the Deerfield show from Ben Siegals table. I'm guessing you got the Blue Beauty that was there. Count yourself lucky...that was my choice (till I recognised a little tail that came out from under the mulch.....)

That was Elaphe situla-the Leopard snake. it is a small european species that is surprisingly like an american Red Rat. The specimen was a striped phase.

Both of you need to count yourselves lucky I was broke or I would have all of them in my shopping cart. LOL Going to a reptile show with no money is no fun. I just re-did my wish list and it is getting bigger everyday but at least I am staying within one basic Genus. My next 3 pairs are going to be Blue Beauties, Caves and Leopards, not neccessarily in that order. Good luck with your new kids.
