kind of a novice question , but help would be appreciated

i just got a hogg island boa today . he was sold to me as a male , to go w my girl . i tried to pop him , but no hemipenes were exposed. he has very large targal spurs , compared to my girl , and he has a very long tail compared to her. he also squirted out a black substance when i tried to pop him. do u guys think he is a male , or a female?

Chances are you didn't do it right and you just squished out some poop or musk. Did it smell horrible?
Boas have musk glands in that area - this is one form of defense...
I know i'd rather get nipped than get musked! PHEW!!

Might try the 'rubbing' method..
