Iguana on a hunger strike ! need help

mizar 21 Nov 09, 2004 05:16 PM

I change my iguana of place in the house, now he's on a hunger strike. It's beginning to worrying me. He ate a little yesterday and nothing today. Will he settle down in a few days ? He spent all of the day today in his hide. I think that he is also affraid of our cats. They dont bother him at all but when he see them he try to hide. What scare me is that in a few days his new enclosure will be ready and i think that maybe he will go on another strike...

Any hint ?

Tis normal when you move an iguana for them to go off of gfood. they dont deal well with change. but if you suspect illness it is always better to take him to the vet for a full check up just to be on the safe side.

..into her. You want to make sure she doesn't get too dehydrated, it's bad for the kidneys. Do you think you can syringe water into her mouth?

Today she ate about a spoonful of beet leaves and some tatsoi. I found at a market near my home a mix of tatsoi, mizuna, mustard green, kale and chards. Do you think it's good ? I'm triyng very hard to find good stuff and it's very hard around here. I try to order some collard and mustard green but the store dont want to order those just for me, they say that they wont be able to sell all their order. I'm trinyg to grow my own dandelion indoor but it dont seem to work.

I agree with what Roger says. Water is key and everything else is secondary. Syringes are pretty easy if you can get the grab right. It is better to do it the first couple times with someone else there to help. You can grab the dewlap and the top of the jaw and jently pry them apart. Make sure you are holding the iguana securely before you try this (secur ethe head and tail)

Good luck.

Im not sure... Mine eat nomatter what... If he goes more than 3 or 5 days I would take him to the vet... Now remember this is also breeding season.

Do you have a male or female?
Are you sure of its sex?
Has it had a recent vet exam and fecals?
What are your temps?
What have you been feeding?

( I used to hang around this forum alot and kinda got lazy and stopped coming... If I am asking repeat questions i apologize )
