I really need to know if Leachie is boy or girl

deadrats Nov 09, 2004 08:41 PM

Posted to the Rhac forum, so sorry for being redundant. I am having trouble deciding on what I have, this animal is 2.5 years old, probably a GT. Any help is appreciated.

We can do different pics, more detail, whatever. I'm not sure who it voted for but it did get out to the polls...

i looked over the pics offered in the rhac book, and from what i can tell, males have a much more "full" bulge, which makes yours look like a female. now i cant guarantee you that at all. you can try taking a magnifying glass or taking a real close up picture of the preanal scales to look for pores which are characteristic of males (but really hard to see).

i have a male Isle E with a very large bulge, he is a male for sure, i sent some pictures to Vosjoli and he was able to confirm it immediately.

yours looks like a female in my opinion.

meant to post to the general gek forum and reposted to this one. Anyhow, thanks for the replies. This one has got me going. It is really big and from that a lot of folks just say male. I only have the one leach, but all of the other rhac species I have, there is NO DOUBT about being male, which has me puzzeled. I really do not see what I would expect at this age for a male. But it is so fiesty, like the male chahouas, likes to bite and snarl when you invade the cage. But also skittish, as opposed to laid back like a male rhac. I suppose I should consider myself lucky to hve such an enigma. The big guys are a lot of fun.

Thanx for the replies, your concensus of female is great.

hehe, knew I seen this picture before recently LOL. Thought I went to far back in the forums for a moment. Unfortunately I don't have any Leachies (but deffinitely plan on getting one or more of these in the near future). It certainly looks like you have a really big girl At least, the male crested gecko I used to have was much more pronounced for his size than is this girl. She is pudgy but I think that is standard for leachies, as all the pics of healthy ones I have seen here, have been pudgy. However because of the pudginess, it does show some bulge.

Do you see preanal pores where the V-shape is near the vent? If I had to bet on the sex of that animal just going by the picture, I would bet male.
