Bin size in Rack for baby and Sub Adult Garters (more)

hbluedevilh Jun 30, 2003 12:52 PM

Hi I am planning on building a rack this week for baby garter snakes. I plan on keeping some of them so I want to know what size bins would be appropriate to keep babies sub-adults and possibly adults also? I want to keep the rack heated with one strip of heat tape so would the bins have to be the same size?

The thermostat will be an ESU reptile thermostat from Big Apple Herp. It works great! It will be placed in the middle bin under a hide. All the bins will have the same setup so that temps will be the same, but Im not sure if I can mix n match bins or not...

If not I will just make a rack suitable for babies and sub-adults. Please, if you can help me out on what size bins I should purchase.

Thanks alot,

Lu

I would say half the body length should be the depth of the bin, and 1/3rd of the body length should be the width. I'm getting garters this week also. 20 to be exact. Let me know how it works out for you.

Make that 3/4th the body length should be the depth, and 1/2 the body length should be the width. I think...

I am thinking the bigger the better but no so big that I would loose the little guys. I am thinking of a rack that will hold two bins on each lever and then with about 4 levels. Not too sure, my uncle is going to make it for me since I dont have the tools needed to put it together. Hopefully I will get it put together by sometime next week.

I'll post pics of it when Its finished.
