Potting Soil

Cobra7 Nov 09, 2004 10:56 PM

Has anyone ever used potting soil or top soil as a substrait? I have seen it used in large "room type" enclosures and was wondering how it would work in a 8'x24"x24" cage. Sean

there are LOTS of bugs, and parasites in top soil, i would not try it, you will most likely end up with mites... JMO

I would think you'd end up with a muddy snake and water bowl/tub if your burm is going in and out as mine does. Not to mention it will be difficult to isolate and remove "soiled" (no pun intended) areas. Just my thoughts.

I have used potting soil for large boas in the past, and was very happy with it. But it can be improved upon, The best and most natural substrait I have ever used was a blend of potting soil, peat, bark mulch and a bit of sand. I found the consistancy did well to keep it out of the water dish.
