So I am worried about this.....

fredhammes Nov 10, 2004 01:19 AM

Found out that my house has termites. Had the Orkin dude come in and do an inspection. He gave me his estimates and whatnot, although he wasn't too happy about being in a house full of herps. I expessed concern over the safety of the chemicals with all my reptiles, and all he would say is "Naw, it's s'posed to be safe for pets."

I am just not sure if I trust this man's opinoin of what is safe for my pets.

Anybody have experience with this or knowledge of their procedures?

I'd really like to have my mind put a little more at ease than he made me feel.

Thanks,
GratefulFred

Play it safe and dont trust him! A reptiles ability to detoxify its own body via the liver is much slower than most mammals. Exposure to such chemicals can cause serious illness and death. Good luck!

Fred,
Get your snakes out of there before he treats the house and keep them out for a couple of days after. If the chemicals he's using will kill the termites, they are harmful for your snakes too. Snakes are not like mammals (what most people mean when they say "safe for pets"...they do not tolerate insecticides well.

Thanks for your replies. I was kinda thinking the same thing. This is going to be quite a project! I have no idea where to take all these critters. Most of the people I know will not even step foot in my house because of all the snakes. lol!
