False Water Cobra and cannibalism

brendanfwc Nov 10, 2004 07:37 AM

I have a male who is approx 4'. I was told by the person that I got him from that it would be ok to keep a baby female (16"with him as long as I separated them during feeding. I suppose there is no right or wrong, just odds seeing as live animals don't always play by the rules. So what's your opinion on the possibility of keeping them together?

Thanks,
Brendan

Bad move. I don't know about cannibalism, but small FWC require more delicate care than a robust 4 footer. The chance of the smaller snake getting injured is also very high.

Definitely a bad move!

They are quite prone to cannibalism, and your chances of keeping the smaller specimen out of the bigger one would be slim - I lost an FWC that way (outside of feeding time). Don't do it.

Thanks for the fast response. I guess I just wanted someone to tell me what I already knew. You know how it is when you get excited. Does anyone know where I might get one between three and five feet. Female and must be captive bred.
Thanks again,
Brendan
