A Whole Lotta Questions!

1. I have recently heard the African Fat-Tailed Geckos are a better choice than Leopard Geckos for beginners. Is that true?

2. What do you use to heat your tanks? And are under the tank heaters actually under the tank or are they under the substrate?

3. Which is better for a beginner, a male or female lizard?

4. You keep the heating thingies on at night right? Because I often hear that the temps. can get pretty low without causing ill effects and I was confused as to either you turn it off or somehow cool it down.

Thanks...Jaz

I don't have a AFT but I think they are both very simular and easy to keep,so get what you want.
Yes a UTH goes under your tank.I would not unplug your heat source, because you only put it on one side of the tank, let your gecko decide if he or she wants to be warmer or cooler, just make sure you put in enough hides and a humidity box.
I only have a Female so can't help you there but she is great! Just make sure you buy from a good breeder and get a healthy gecko.
Shame on me but here she is,her name is April.

1. Both make great biginner pets. The care is slightly different between the two, fat tails need more humidty and such. So just go with which one you like the most :-]

2. I use Under Tank Heaters with a termostat on my tanks. These goe under that tank and not under the substrate.

3. Males and females both make wonderful pets. Its more of a preference. But one thing to keep in mind is you "can" keep females together but not males.

4. I always have the heaters on in my tanks, also my tanks are pretty roomy so they have a cool side and warm side and they can choose to be cooler or warmer.

Good luck :-] and feel free to ask any more questions.

1. I only have leos but they are very easy to maintain and lovely creatures. they do seem to be fairly similar to fatties though. seems like that one is just up to you.

2. UTH's are under the tank.
3. I have both a male and females and they are all dears. I don't think that either is "harder" to take care of and they all have wonderful personalities so that doesn't make a difference there. the only thing is to be SURE that you don't have two males in together or they will fight.

4. the heating elements are left on overnight. I use a moonglow lamp which looks sorta like a black light so that the light doesn't bother the lizards. they are nocturnal and need to have a realistic "nighttime" period for them to feel comfortable running around in.

Best of luck!
