Attention all breeders. I need some tips and advice...

abstractcypher Nov 10, 2004 01:21 PM

this'll be my first time shipping beardies around and I need some advice on how you go about doing it. Any questions you can hep me w/ would be great.

* What do you put in the box w/ them? Cold weather? Hot weather?Anything to eat?

* Should they fit snug or should there be some leg room?

* Whos the most reliable and inexpensive company to go through?

Like I said, ANY tips, advice or just sharing of your shipping experience is GREATLY appreciated (and needed).

Thanks,

Ray

First you'll need a styrofoam isulated boxs. For weather right now you'll need the good heat packs, not the cheap crap from walmart, but the 40 or 72 hour ones designed for reptiles. For summer sometimes you'll need cool packs depending on where your shipping. I get all that stuff from Scales, they've got decent prices on it and are good to work with. UPS is the best shipping company I've found. FedEx works well also but is more expensive. USPS sucks, plain and simple.

Just what Sean said. I get my supplies from Scales and some other place. If you go to google.com, type in reptile shipping supplies and you will get a few websites. I buy boxes with styrofoam insulation from there, 12" X 9" X 5" . I also get small white deli cups with clear tops for the babies. They really dont need any room, just enough to feel comfortable. The heat packs he was talking about you can get from Scales etc. also. Give them lost of water before shipping, and dont feed directly before shipping, or they can upchuck. Line the deli cups with paper towels also. Pack the box with lost of newspaper tightly packed so the deli cups cant move around. I use FedEx and have great success with it. Good luck!
