Bummer this guy didn't grow as fast as I was hoping. I've tried checking for sperm plugs but they've never popped out.
Too bad his 5 girlfriends will have to wait too..

You have to be patient sometimes with these animals. There is still a chance to breed him late this season if he is still eating.
Good luck

If he's still feeding than keep feeding him and he'll get there this yr...If not there is always next yr...But don't give up yet...I know a few people that have gotten 420 gram males to breed and father a clutch or two successfully...Good luck!!

I've got a pastel that is around 450g too, no plugs yet for me either but I'm still pumping him with food and hope that he will go later this year. I know a few people who have successfully bred their young males at this size.

Thanks for the encouraging words guys. Don't get me wrong I'm not too dissapointed here, I knew all along he probably wouldn't be big enough for this year, no big deal! I will try him with a female or two just to see what happens, I plan on cooling a few of my BPs starting Thanksgiving, if nothing else I'll probably breeding-loan at least one female. Also I do plan on trying again in a few months or whenever he reaches 750g, I think thats probably a good size.
The worst thing that happens here is I wait longer and my females are bigger and more prepared to breed, this is not a loss at all.
Also sorry about the giant picture...I always leave my cam on the maximum size/quality...is there a way to downsize them?
Most forums do not provide a way to resize a pic once it has been uploaded. However, either your operating system or the software that came with your camera should have a basic picture editor. Simply open the picture in this program and resize. If you have Windows it is fairly simple. Open the pic with either "Microsoft Photo Editor" or with "Paint". Both have resizing capabilities. Play around with the pic...don't worry about ruining it as long as you don't save the changes at some point you can always go back or "Undo" changes.
Email me if you can't figure it out or have additional questions/problems.
Ross2k, I would put that little male in with the females, My little pastel male has bred around 5 females and he is only 500 grams NOW, And the females are swelling. He was accually breeding in september and he was only 450 grams then. I was just putting the male with females to see if he would try and breed. He did and is on every female he comes in contact with. So put him in with the females. Thanks David

Maybe I'm not seeing the picture clearly, but it looks like that snake is missing an eye.
Why on earth would you want to breed a one eyed male?! Let alone to 5 females?!
I produced a one eyed ball python a few years back and have kept him as my bp mascot... good ol' "one eyed willy" the only bp left in my collection. I don't think there is anything wrong with raising and caring for such an animal, but I can't for the life of me figure out why you would ever want to breed an animal like that. Even if it's not a genetic defect... giving the mutation a chance to repricate itself in future offspring seems incredibly irresponsible.
Time to get off my sopbox, but that's my two cents.

I agree. If it was an injury, then he's breedable. If it was a birth defect, I wouldn't breed him.

I have a male from this year who is only 300-400 grams and is going crazy all around his cage---I cool BP's off first year so they can get used to temp change for next year
he wont eat, but is just going nuts ----not going to breed him but we will see-- other breeders have had male morphs that breed in the same year they were hatched
