size differences?

Hey, since this just came up for someone else, I like to mix only gex of similar sizes, but does it matter if the male is the smaller of them? I want to mix a 67g fem, 59g fem, and the male just passed 40g and is still growing. How big should he get before I can feel safe putting them together?
