Are you keeping that spoon in there? I think your gecko may try to climb it and it is likely to fall off, perhaps a potential for injury there

And I think I have heard that geckos nails can get pulled off by astroturf, but maybe I am thinking of looped carpet. Anyway. I'm sure they will be very happy in there. I assume you will be putting in warm, moist and cool hides, and calcium and mealworms, etc...

Likes good.....but.....yes there is a but....

Do you have a thermometer in there and a humidity one also? Yea, I agree with starling, It looks lke the spoon might tip over or something if the leo would climp on it. Also is that a UV light. Leos dont need UV light, or is it just a heat source? Either way looks ok. How big is it anyways?

matnga Jun 30, 2003 02:19 PM

no not a uv light just one heat bulb and the flour. that come in the fixture when i bought for veiwing purposes

the cage is 25x16x16 and everything was bought from home depot

I think it is important for gex to have that especi. a warm hide were they can sleep and feel protect and be warm. A heat lamp is okay in addition though.

matnga Jun 30, 2003 02:25 PM

no, no under tank heater i am working on that though i think i am gonna get a real small one for just under his warm hide and stick it to a piece of plexi glase and use the little bumps and put it right under the carpet under his hide. the wood is 3/4 maple so i think a UTH on the outside would be ineffective at keeping the temps up

Starling Jun 30, 2003 02:33 PM

You might want to cut the carpet away there and just let him rest on the plexi-glass-use a thermostat to adjust temps- I'd be considered about heat-build up and fire danger if you put carpet over the heater....

this is true starling.

matnga Jun 30, 2003 02:22 PM

yeah i actualy have three temp strips but no humidity. they are along the back and far side wall

matnga Jun 30, 2003 02:17 PM

the big rock looking thing is a hide it's hollow and the log in the back is also hollow anthor hide . the green bowel up front is full of calcium and meal worms and the rock bowel next to it is water. the spoon is my "spot" thermoter i lay it in the cage to get accurate temps from the floor level or to measure a basking spot which that is what it is measuring in that pic and it says 92°f

JAG Jun 30, 2003 02:50 PM

Is the spoon in the cool side or warm side. The temp on the warm side she be around 88 degrees no more than 95 and the cool side should be about 80 degrees or so. If the cage is warm/hot throughout the whole thing it wont give your leo the right temp. to pick from and so forth which is used for digestion and many more health issues.

matnga Jun 30, 2003 03:04 PM

the spoon is on a basking area 93°F the high temp on the warm side is 86 and about 80 on the cool side

86° is not ideal for the warm side, 88°-90° is best in my experience, for growth, color and appetite...
