Wow, that looks nice! Sure is dark already for an 04.
The reason he is so dark at such a young age is because the bloodline he comes from produces almost solid black animals. Here is a link to Dwight Good's website that shows a picture of one of the adult breeders. Very first picture on the page.

Oh I'm very familiar with Dwight's solid black line. I haven't seen any at intermediate stages though, it'd be nice to see more pics of yours as it progresses. I'm sure he won't disappoint.
You just can't go wrong with Dwight's critters. Those jet black beauties are a real prize. I sold my Dwight Black Rat before moving. He's now happily at home with a 15 year-old and her Dad.
Thanks alot everyone, I appreciate the positive comments!!!

Wonderful snakes? Agreed. I'm working on pics of my black rat as we speak. I don't have a digital camera so I have to use film, but I can't get it developed yet because I'm waiting for my corn to shed. My obsoleta isn't dark like that, but it's still very pretty - I'm a fan of the bright silver and black, too. I hope the pics come out well. But the point is that I love your snake, and black rats in general.
Congrats Steve. You've picked up some outstanding snakes this past season. That Dwight Good black rat snake bloodline is one of the best. Don't forget to post some update pics now and then.

I do have to say I've treated myself pretty good this year. Not counting my wife's Ball Python, I've purchased A bairdi Ratsnake, Black Ratsnake, Outer Banks Kingsnake, and my latest, an Axanthic Brooks Kingsnake. What can I say, I'm a colubrid addict.
