Constipated corn snake...

Thethinker Nov 10, 2004 08:22 PM

I'm really worried about my three year old corn snake, she hasn't gone to the bathroom in quite a while. I have a kingsnake who usually only takes two or three days, but my corn has always needed almost a week.

I was waiting for quite a while and eventually figured it had been too long since they'd last eaten and fed her again. I felt uneasy about this because I like to make sure they've expelled the previous meal before taking on a new one...

So I've been waiting for quite some time now since I fed them. For the past couple of days I've been soaking her in warm water in hopes that perhaps that would help, but so far it's done nothing. It's been well over a week now and I'm really worried for her. I was thinking about calling Petco but they really don't ever know anything, the response is always 'call a vet' no matter how simple a question it is...

So I figured this would be the best place to try. She's been eating fuzzies, she doesn't appear to be ready to shed anytime soon, and I recently noticed that her cage isn't as war, as it should be. I feel really terrible about not noticing this before, but the warm side of her cage is below 75 at night. I've decided that it's finally the right time of the year to turn on the ceramic heater, which helps a great deal.

I guess my basic question is; will she be okay? I'm fairly sure that heat was the issue and that this will fix it, but will she remain healthy after going through this ordeal?

I feel extremely guilty...like I've failed as a pet owner. I take very good care of them both and I'm surprised I didn't notice this sooner. I hope to God she'll be alright...

Have you done a thorough search of the enclosure.
And I mean thorough. Under and behind and between and wherever.
You'd be surprised where you might find it sometimes.
Check to be sure then raise the temps. You probably don't have anything to worry about.
