M/F ?? anal pores but no bulge

drey Nov 10, 2004 09:42 PM

My pair of juvi geckos (around 8 months i think) were sold to me as a M/F pair. The one sold as a male, has a obvious bulge both above and below the vent, with clear anal pores. The one sold to me as female however, has fainter anal pores, but only a bulge above the vent with none below the vent, as i thought was typical of a male. Also, during the time they were housed together (they are seperated now), they showed no sign of aggression or tail wagging towards each other. unfortunately im unable to post a pic at this moment, but, what do you guys think?

a pic really would help. All of my males have two bulges below the vent. A slight bulge above I think is normal (but not sure what you mean w/o a pic) sounds like you have a m/f pair after all. Some females do have a v line, and they do have pores, they are just MUCH smaller

From my understanding the males will have two bulges with an indentaion between them. Females will have one bulge with no indentations. SOunds like you got a male female pair after all

true / false? and that the pores were a better sign of determining sex than bulges.

only males have Visible pores. Females have pores that are really not visible, but the scale pattern V can sometimes be seen and confuse newbies. And yes, they are a much better determminant than bulges, but you have to wait for a certain age/size
