Minor spasms normal?

Jabbano Nov 10, 2004 10:02 PM

Holding my juvenile (28 inch) cali king today, I noticed that he was experiencing numerous minor spasms/twitches during the first 2 minutes of handling. This is the first time I've observed this behavior. He was rather cold (70-75 degree) when I took him out, could his adjusting to the heat of my hand be the cause? Is this normal?

Depends on how often he's handled. If he's very shy than it is a reaction of him trying to avoid touching you at all costs even though you are already holding him (many young corn snakes are very famous for doing this). If you handle him more often this 'shy' behavior should go away.
BUT. . .If he's really really tame, than it could be his 'exitement' coming from a feeding response; In other words he thinks (for the first couple of minutes he's getting a meal any second) and acts on this without being frightened by you holding him (My overzealous 76" King snake and eastern Indigo do this - they have NO fear of me whatsoever)!
Hope this helps. . .
