Your black rat is really nice Travis. I knew it wouldn't be long before you threw something in about the Texas rat snake bad reputation. Still think they were framed? My orange phase and the leucitsitc Texas rat snakes that I had are calm snakes. My orange phase adults have turned out quite docile. I had a pair of leucisic Texas rat snakes that bred for a new owner this past season that were calm and nice to handle. Of the other Texas rat snakes I have there is one w/c female that is the meanest snake I have had or have now. I don't blame the old girl as she was rescued from some farmers and she was pretty beat up when I got her. She had raided more than one hen house I'm afraid. She looked like she had even been in or near a fire. The one side of her face looked like it had been burned. I had to take about 4 or 5 eye caps off that side of the face. She cleaned up real well, but I think she just didn't trust any humans. Here's a pic of one of my Texans when he was a subadult.

I have a black rat just around a year right now, and when i first got him he was very active, trying to run away constantly. never struck at me though. now he's calmed down...id say it took about a week or so...he just cruises around me checking it out whenever i take him out. hope yours turns out nice as well, very nice snake.

also like your texas rat. my 2 bairdi tx rats both started out as hatchligns to be very agressive, rosa even struck at me a coupel times, now they just rattle their tails and relax. I really enjoy them as well. I can't wait to watch them grow up!

I sure like the look of those "solid Blacks." Is that one of Dwight's?

yup, most of my good stuff is from him. Dwight has some of (the?) best NA ratsnakes.
