How often do you change the substrate?

aliaime Nov 11, 2004 11:36 AM

I have a 1 year old Peruvian Boa and although she occationally soils the substrate(Aspen Mulch), when do I completely change the whole thing?

Well, I spot clean the soiled areas as I find them and about once a month or so completly clean and replace the bedding in the aspen cages. I just play it by ear. Every situation is diffrent. I also think it depends on the size of enclosure too. I hope that answer helps.
Now can I ask you a question or two? I have noticed that you do seem to ask some pretty basic "newbie" questions. Have you been or started to do your basic research on these topics? I do not feel anyone here really minds them, I do not (and I am not trying to speak for anyone) as we all have to start somewhere but these are general basic questions. Alot of your questions can be found in many common and basic books and caresheets. With me asking you this please do not feel that I am trying to be a butthead or belittle you. Just curious.

I am some sort of "newbie" if you call it. The problem is I had a Burmese Python 10 years ago and raised it till it grew to about 10 feet. Unfortunately my Burmese passed away and I stopped getting involved in the herp culture. I recently started back up for good, so I want to soak up as much knowledge as possible. I live in Brooklyn,NY and there isn't that much experience individuals I can correspond to for information. I have books and Caresheets for the reptiles I posess but that doesn't cover the intricate behavorial patterns of my snakes. Currently, I have a Peruvian Boa and a Ball Python. I may appear to ask basic questions but I just need to know certain things in detail. I figured this forum would provide me with general feedback until I get more involved and knowledgable. I dont want anything bad to happen to my reptiles due to human error or negligence, that's why I ask questions. Thx for noticing that!
