Anyone breed African House Snake?

vipergeck0 Nov 11, 2004 11:39 AM

I currently keep 1.3 gargoyle geckos, 0.0.3 viper geckos, 1.1 cresteds, and 1.1 giant leaf tails but i used to keep boas and corns. I've been reading up on these guys and i'm hooked! One vendor at my reptile swap carries juvies and they are 100$ each!!!! Any breeders here have any juvies for sale or are expecting some in the near future? If so I am very interested. Please email me at JBNgeck154@comcast.net
Any help is much appreciated, thanks,

Jack

Hey,

I may be breeding in about 18 months, depending on the female's size and public interest. Both animals were purchased in August 04 as yearlings.

These are interesting snakes, my male retaining pattern on the first third of his body, and the female is a beautiful cinnamon color. Both are about 24 inches long, and eat a pinky rat twice a week.

As far as prices for hatchlings, I'm not sure. I've seen 30 dollars and a lot more for albino hets and albinos. I think pricing also depends on how eagerly the neonates feed. You may get a nonfeeder that is tiny for a cheap price, but getting the small ones eating can be challenging. Adults can go for over 100 dollars, depending on color and availability.

This snake in the herp industry is probably one of the best kept secrets. The small hatchling size, and drab colors make them unappealing to many who like the brilliant corn and milk snake morphs, but I think they are wonderful additions to any collection. In states that ban native colubrids, such as GA and TN, this species is a great alternative to rats and corns.

Good luck.
