Bought a new leo today!

VTEC Nov 11, 2004 11:46 AM

I stopped by Petco today (I know, petco sucks) and saw that they had everything in their leo tank for only 19.99. I decided what the hell and picked out a baby albino. I have heshe in hisher own 10 gallon tank on paper towels. What do you guys feed babies? Is it ok to give them mealies?

Baby leos are fine on small mealies, often sold at petco. just make sure to keep them in a dish so they don't chew on ur little baby.

honestly i've never had a prob with petco leos, now don't get me started on petsmart... but we don't need another tred on pet store battles.
Hope all works out for you and ur little guy.

this is my petso find about and month ago...

When you have the mealworms home, dump them out and give it the light colored ones that just shed. They are the softest and they look white not brownish yellow.
PetCo is not a bad place in my opinion. Sure they have 5 or 6 leos in a tank, but at least they are healthy looking and have little fat tails and a hiding place (even if it is up against the glass so you can see them.

Oh yeah, I saw they soaked the mealworms in water at petco for the babies. What is this for? Will it soften them up or do you think they were the freeze dried ones in a can and they were just hydrating them?

Yeah thats what I was thinking of doing. In my other leos food bowl there are a bunch of really tiny mealies that he will probably not eat anyway. I will probably go through his bowl and pick out the tiny ones for the little guy. He already went after his first mealie and has only been settled for 2 hours, unfortunately he didnt attack it, just chased it when he saw it. They had about 15 leos in the tank at petco. There were 2-3 juveniles that were nice and a ton of albinos. I was gonna go for the juvenile but I figured I would go for something a little more exotic since my adult male is a high-yellowregular.

How long does it typically take for a baby to grow? I got my male when he was a juvenile so I'm not sure of baby leo grow rates.

One of our petco finds....

Nice! Did you get that as a baby?

Another question I had was are leos found at petco and petsmart typically temp. incubated to be female or is it a toss-up as to what sex it is? When I picked out my leo I tried to find one that had a more sleak head because I know male heads are a little bulkier.

Yes she was bought as a baby, and when you buy from Petco and Petsmart (would never by from petsmart) you never know what your getting so you'll just have to wait and see. Here are some more petco leos.....

i would go to www.grubco.com and order 1,000 small mealworms, it should cost $9.75 (including shipping) and it'll feed your gecko for a LOOOOONG time
