Purchasing my first Chondro

crtoon83 Nov 11, 2004 02:12 PM

I am about to get m first GTP from Marcel, hopefully around the first week in december. I have been constructing some cages for my colubrids, and I think i'll place him on top in one of those cages. it's a 24"x24"x48" cage. I'm building them all out of 1/2" oak, but i'll line his with FRP due to the misting and humidity. The colubrids get an epoxy glaze coat on theirs.

the particular animal i'm looking at getting is a 2.5 year old male, who i've been told is very docile (by more people than just the breeder...), and I think it's beautiful. I am planning on getting some willow branches to mount in the cage for him to perch on.

I've read a multitude of care sheets, and it seems that these snakes are not to be handled too often, unlike my colubrids which I handle on a daily basis, correct?

If anybody has any added information on this setup, please post a reply and let me know. I really would appreciate it.

Thanks.

Nice chondro. where'd you get him?

....I shouldn't read post backwards. So you are picking up that male. If I didn't have a male already, I would've picked that one up. Its a really nice one. Good luck with it. Did you buy "The Complete Chondro" by Greg Maxwell yet? It's a great book, because it offers good advice on about most chondro topics. When are you getting your next chondro???

I'm going to get that...i have a care sheet he wrote (15 pages printed out) and ive read about 4 oher care sheets for chondros so I think i have the basic idea of how to keep for a chondro, and I want to put my money right now into that cage and that chondro so i dont miss this opportunity, but I will be buying that book ASAP.

Excellent choice of first chondro... incredible value for your dollar... well done!!

Now, I also love Greg Maxwells book, but I also have received Rico Walders "Owner Manual" when I purchased a snake from him and for $10.00 only it also has all the necessary information for keeping gtp's in addition to problem solving. Also an excellent value for the money!!
