EPT Twins!!!

Dave Ennis Jun 30, 2003 02:45 PM

Anybody out there ever been able to hatch twins? I have included a photo that I just took that shows the twins. I wonder if they can actually hatch. They are European Pond Turtles.

I've never hatched any, but from what I hear, you just treat them normally and they will hatch on their own, but likely be smaller than their clutchmates and maybe need to be separated while they catch up.

makes sense to me, thanx. If I have to seperate them from the others that will be no problem. There should be about 5 or 6 others(that are not twins).

Oh, and I've never heard of european ponds being called EPT's, but I do regularly refer to (as do others) Eastern Painted Turtles as EPT's *grin*.

European ponds are one species I hope to get into when I get more expansions done on my eden area.

Yes, I just realized that yesterday when I was browsing some other forums, and saw references to EPTs and then I found that this meant Eastern Painted Turtle! Doh! The person that I got my *European Pond Turtles* from referred to them as "Euros" in some of our communications. This, however is also a designation for European currency. So...I vote that they should be called "EuroPT" for a short name.

I'm glad to hear that you hope to obtain some of these little puppies. I like to call them puppies because that's really how they act. Several of them will come out of the pond, follow me, and now I have to be careful when I turn around to go back the other way. One has tugged on my shoelaces trying to pull me. They know that I am the food bringer, and will come out of hiding when they hear me say "where's my buddies?". They don't bite like sliders. When I pick them up for examinations they have never even opened there mouths as if to bite. But when feeding, watch out!!! No holds barred! Those hands are food too! I could go on and on but I won't. Let me just say that there are numerous places to obtain them. I got mine from Turtling Pete who advertises in the classifieds frequently. If you are not sure where to get them, try Pete. Mine were all in good health. He had some from Russia that were absolutely beautiful, and I got some. Let me see if I can give you a pic of my favorite Russian female. If I was a turtle I would want to marry her!

That's a pretty lady!

I love wood turtle personalities, and a few of my boxies have similar traits, it should be exciting to have more species with outgoing ways.
