California Regulations for CB Gilas

matthewkot Nov 11, 2004 02:48 PM

I was wondering if anyone had the quick answer on the legality of owning CB gilas in California. I did a forum search and couldn't find the exact answer given there were several references to permits but no clear answer. Can anyone clear this up?

Thanks,

Matt

Greetings all,
The Gila monster Heloderma suspectum is a prohibited species in the state of California and requires a special permit from the California Department Of Fish and Game. To be honest unless you work at a zoo or are a biologist, the permit is near impossible to get. For example one of the requirements is two years experience at a facility that has the permit ie a zoo, museum, etc. I don't mean to be a kill joy those are just the facts.
Look for my Mexican Beaded Lizard arcticle comming up in the January February issue of Reptile Care.
Happy holidays,
