Leo never eats out of his bowl

VTEC Nov 11, 2004 03:05 PM

I have a bowl in my leos tank with mealies in it. I noticed that I never catch him eating out of his bowl. He usually eats one of the escaped mealies or only when I put them in front of him. Is my bowl too big maybe? The lip of the bowl is approx. 3/4 of an inch above the substrate. Do you guys have pics of your mealie bowl so I can get an idea of what to get?

it's probably because they can't see the mealies in the bowl. my previous leo never saw the mealies until she sat on the little branch that's on the little bowl or i'd tilt it for her and she's come rushing over and standing over the bowl when i placed it back. she eventually associated the bowl with food so she'd perch over it when i was ready 2 put mealies in.

i've heard clear petri dishes help so the leos can see the mealies moving around.

I know my leo never ate out of the bowl untill he climed up on his tree and must have seen them moving around, But I feed him a combo of crickets and mealies with the occasional waxie, silk worm or pinky (actually I havent fed him any pinkys yet, But I plan to)

Sometimes geckos just get spoiled, I know mine are! Mine have eaten out of the bowl, but they prefer to just be lazy and have me drop them in front of them. Sometimes, if I have to be away overnight, they finally go over and eat one or two. If your bowl isn't too high (and your geckos too little) they can climb up and take a look inside.
