Different ways to sterilize wood

Hey everyone i was wondering wat different methods you all use to sterilize wood that u collect outside the pet store. Please respond with the steps that you take.

I put ajax or comet (figure it has bleach in it but smell does not overwhelm) in a tub full of HOT water and let it soak for a few hours.

Then I rinse it well. And leave it dry until next day. Never have had any problems, and smell is gone too !

I tried the baking thing before , but do this now, it kills whats ever on there.
