I use a three step process with wood I find.

1. First I find the wood.

2. Second I put the wood in the monitors cage.

3. I leave them alone.

You really don't have to do anything to it. Well I don't, I'm not sure what anybody else does. Just my opinion.

The huricanes (Frances and Jeanne) were a mixed blessing for me. I lost my apartment but gained some large heavy oak branches for my larger boids and argusXflavius to climb on. I went out to a marina I was helping clean up and proceded to saw branches to fit my enclosures. I like to treat my wood. I live in FL and reptile mites are a real concern for me since the anole pop in my town is astronomical and have seen them crawling with them. I usually take a 25-50% bleach solution (dependent on branch thickness, amount of bark, etc) and soak the branch (outside) I usually apply it slowly and couple times over each area of the branch to allow it to seep into the bark and kill eggs and larvae that might be within it. I then let the branch air dry in the sun for 2-3 days to give the bleach time to degrade and evaporate. I'm a little paranoid, but I believe better safe than sorry. Had a few too many mite outbreaks that took over my reptile room and required many long hrs of removal, cleaning, and isolation to cure.
