How much do hatchling weigh?

waswell Nov 11, 2004 03:40 PM

Can someone give me a breakdown of your average weight for a hatchling? 1 month old? 2 month old etc....all the way up to a yearling. Only looking for averages as I understand over/under feeding can change the scale.

Mine are 119 grams and 172 grams. Trying to find out about how old they are. Both are in good health. Thanks !!!!

I think on 'average' hatchlings will weigh between 50-90g.
It will be impossible to determine the age of your snakes
based solely on weight, but they are probably a couple months
old.

In the (terrible) picture below, these two are 19g and 22g.
You can see a penny under the head of one of them for reference.
They were BY FAR the smallest ball pythons I've ever seen!
They are both slowing picking up some size. I had to assist
feed them both to get them started, but they both just started
taking crawler mice

So far I've had 4 extremely small hatchlings - twins in 2000 and a couple of first clutch eggs this year that produced hatchlings in the 20 gram range (it should have been a clutch of 7 but had lots of slugs and infertile eggs). Maybe it's just luck but all where fantastic feeders on (small) hopper mice right after their first shed. The girl I kept from this summer is 226 grams today.
