It's been a long time since the first week in June when my Brooksi babies hatched. A few of them ate immediately, others held off for a while. But three of them have refused to eat on their own until TODAY. Whew! I certainly wasn't patient during all this time. I tried pushing mouse tails down them. But I got tired of that real quick. Jeff L. sent me some baby water snakes and a couple of them began to eat after that. I twice cooled them down and put them in the dark for a 3 week period. And just recently removed them from the dark and put them back into their baby rack. Seems this time has provoked an appetite in at least one of them. And the little girl who ate didn't eat "just one" but she rattled her tail and ate a second live pinky. Now I'm hoping that the last two will also find their appetite and begin to grow out of their little boxes.
I didn't realize that raising babies was so stressful.

Baby eats for the first time.......5 months old!

None of my Eastern Kings that hatched in June have eaten pinks on their own yet.

some brained pinkies? This usually gets about 60% of my non feeding E. Kings to eat. The rest usually need some heavy scenting or even parts of small reptiles lizards/snakes' skin draped over the pinky. And as a last resort: small lizards/snakes. I try to avoid force feeding at all costs! Only had to do it once in 30 years of herping! Thank god!
