Very wierd behavior by my female albino leo...need advice...more

bmills Jun 30, 2003 02:56 PM

I went away for a week and had my girlfriend watch my leos, I have 2 living in a 20 gallon long, and one had protozoans, so I went to the vet and got medication, my girlfriend had to give the medication while I was gone, and now that I am back, I have noticed my albino leo acting very weird. She is MUCH MUCH more jumpy, and when I put my hand in the tank she doesn't come to it like she used to. And when I move my hand around in the tank she follows it the whole time with her eyes, like she is watching to make sure I wont' hurt her. She used to just come right up to my hand, and last night, she was like relaly jerky, and her head was moving all around and she was bitting in the air at nothing. It was really weird. I'm afraid that she will try and bite me if I go to pick her up. What happened to her behavior? She used to come to my hand and now it's like she doesn't know what it is.

Was she the sick one? If one of your leos have protozone you should seperate them immedatly. Treat them both also.

She was not the sick one, but they are both being treated right now, and they are still together...the oen that was sick is doing MUCH better, and my other one which is beign treated also is doing fine, just very jumpy, like she is expecting me to pick her up and give her the medication...just acting wierd like that.

How old is your leo? My first leo had coccidia and she use to be very sweet and walk up to me and lick and go onto my hand. After me treating her for a few days with Albon she began to do the same thing to me like she was introuble or something. I think she thought/knew that when I went to bring her out in the mornings that it was her medicine time and she didn't like it so she began to run away from me all over the tank like she was hyper and didnt want to be touched. It just might be that your leo thinks that you might have to give it medicine again and it doesnt want to. Im not sure though. Is it a male with a female. Might be wanting ot mate if so?

It is 2 females. I think it thinks she will get the medicine. So hopefully she will grow out of it and be okay. I hope she will...any other advice would be great.

I rescued a very dehydrated Juvie that was about to die, its sibling already had. I had to administer fluids and and then food for over a month before she started gaining weight. Shes turned outto be a very healthy gecko now but reacts like you desribe. Shes getting better with time but I still think she thinks when I try to hold her I'm going to do something to her.

Yea, but my leo was GREAT before...had no problem with me at all, and would come out of her hides to see what I was doing when I came in the room and would come to my hand, I had trouble getting her back in her tank, now she freaks out, and she bites in mid air, and has really jerky movement, and will even try to bite my finger through the glass...I just don't understand.

try to give her a treat when you give her the medication. Mine is much calmer (but still squirmes) because she knows she gets meat baby food with her meds.

The medication is done, and it's been done for a week now, but she is now biting in teh air, and has very jerky movements, and will even try to bite my finger through the tank glass, and freaks out with any movement, and when I had the bowl with the worms in it, she was just biting the side of the bowl, I don't understand what happened to her.
