buying a beardie

banana Nov 11, 2004 06:38 PM

Where did everyone get their dragons from? I don't want to get mine at a pet store, afraid it'll turn out mean, and I'm not concerned with color, I just want a nice temperamented one. I'm asking where you got yours so I could check it out as well. Thanx!

You could check the classifieds most people on there are trustworthy.

We try to pick up a few each year from good breeders, here are some pics of this years babies we got to add to our colony. For us, size potential and heartiness is most important.

Merlin age 6 months, 419 Grams, 21 inches long from Matt at MysticalDragons. This is the largest young dragon by size/age we have raised

Icera age 7 months, 365 Grams, 18 inches long from Tracey at beardiecrazy.com. This girl has so much attitude everyone loves her, very determined and she does educational programs with me.

Zelda, age 7 months, 341 Grams, 17.5 inches from a private breeder, this girl is related to our 1048 gram male beardie who is 25+ inches

Very Happy with all of them, last year we got new dragons from DragonsDen, Joel Roberts, Eva and Imports, most those are brumating right now

Brandon at Dragons By Nature ( www.dragonsbynature.com)
He's a great guy with great dragons. My friends and I just purchased 3 babies. He has been alot of help via phone and e-mail with all of our questions!

I just missed them and someone else had bought them. But I will be watching his in the future also. He has the type of dragons and parentage we want.

BTW, Zelda above was named by him and I thought the name works well for her.

They are beautiful. I also got one of Matts' boys. Herbie might be your boys clutchmate. He is almost 6 months, 426 grams and 19 inches. Just thought I would share. I appreciate all of your time and information you share on this forum. I have gotten a lot of good information from your posts. I tried to post a picture of Herbie. Hopefully it works.

and yes, he is a clutchmate to Merlin. That was a great pairing and really nice babies.

The color on Merlin in that picture is the "stomping aorund the house -I wanna see the girls colors" when sleeping and basking he just glows this bright orange/red color. He truly loves people to and would rather be in someones hands or shoulder than anywhere, he's been that way since he arrive so I think a good indicator he had lots of contact and attention before he came here at 6 weeks.

Thanks for posting a pic of Herbie. Hah guess he hasn't been missing any meals lately Well you have the heaviest of this seasons babies so far, and Cheri has the Longest. Yours is one month younger then Cheri's as Merlin was from clutch 1 and your Herbie from the second. Mine here are not to far behind either. Thanks for sharing a pic, and giving my baby such a loving home. I show off the pic of Herbie and your kids all the time Keep up the good work with him.

Wow 21 inches at 6 months taking after his dad Foster for sure!! So good to get an update on my boy.. Looks like your doing a great job with him like you do all those wonderful dragons you keep.. I get so happy seeing them in such great homes, and living large, spoiled rotton, and healthy

Brandon at Dragons by Nature is great. Also, Jen at kakadudragons.com is extremely helpful and has awesome orange dragons. They both post here on the kingsnake classifieds and you can't go wrong with either one.

I wasn't either until I decided to start breeding.LOL If there's even a slightest possibility that you'll ever breed, might as well start with a nice one. I've never seen an ugly beardie, only ugly owners. HeHeHe

I got one this season from Jen at Kakadudragons.com and let me tell ya he's an awesome dragon.. You can tell how much work the breeder puts into their babies thats for sure. The dragon was not afraid of anything, and ate the first day out of the box both veggies, and any live food you put into his cage. Not only that but for the price you just can't go wrong. You Best bet is going with a smaller breeder with a passion for these reptiles. i bought from many big names, but nothing compared to the dragons I got from smaller breeders like Chris Allen, and Jen from Kakadu who both put tons of time into getting each dragon they produce used to people, and a variety of foods. The time the breeder has for each baby is so important, and it shows from the day you bring it home. Here is my male I got from Jen. His name is Allakasam, and if all goes well he will have a perfect mate for him when the time comes...

I got mine from foxfiredragons.com
He came eating greens, and superworms, crickets.
Loves baths.
Got lots of help from the breeder.
I felt her prices were reasonable and I got
color too.

Very happy with him.
