Bloody stool...

the Rigger Nov 12, 2004 06:12 AM

My male leo had an unusual day yesterday. He had passed a loose, slightly bloody stool. Then he passed over the course of about 6 hours a couple more that were smaller each time and less bloody. The last stool was just barely anything.

Around this time last year he stopped eating and did so for about 3 1/2 months and then suddenly started eating again. So when he stopped eating I wasn't too concerned. And then yesterday he passed a few strange stools. He has been very healthy, is almost 2 years old, weighs 72grams, and up until 4 days ago, was eating everything in sight. His temps are 88-90 and is on paper towels. Any thoughts?

Thanks

I bought him from you almost 2 years ago, I respect the way you raise animals and would like your advice. Has this ever happened to you?

Thanks,

hey, sounds pretty severe, prolly should take it to a vet.

Best of luck with that...

I work at a pet store to get me through college, so I've cared for tons of lizards. Usually when our animals get bloody stool, it's because they have worms of some kind. The worms will eat at the leo's intestines and cause damage, which will result in the bloody stools. I would suggest taking it to the vet. Parasites don't go away by themselves, so your leo will have to be prescibed some medication. I'm not trying to scare you, just stating the facts. If caught in time your leo can make a complete recovery, no problem. Hope this helps. Good luck!

When I got home from work yesterday he had passed another stool, this would be about 12 hours after the last. It did not have any blood in it. Should I still have him checked?

Thanks
