What kind of bulb should I get?

elcheal Nov 12, 2004 10:12 AM

Right now I have my gecko in a 20 gallon tank with a uth and a 60 watt red bulb over it. Temps on the hot side only reach 75 to 80 degrees during the day cuz it definatley feels like winter outside and it is around 65 degrees in my house. To get the temps around 80-90 should i get a 75 watt red bulb or should i go with a 60 watt ceramic bulb? Would a ceramic bulb emit more heat than a red bulb? or is it the same? Thanks for the help.

Those ceramic bulbs really suck the electricity, plus you have to practically touch it to know it's on. I keep my Leos in a 30 gallon so the top of the tank is farther away than with a 20 gal. My setup has a 100 watt red bulb and a ESU Reptile Thermostat set at 90 degrees. This keeps the temp constant 24/7. Don't do this with a day bulb because this setup turns the light on and off every 5 minutes or so, and would stress the lizard if he could see the light in his visible spectrum.
