Egg Laying

bast Nov 12, 2004 11:04 AM

Hello,

My beardies were mating about a month ago. The female has been sepparted for about a week now. She doesn't seem to be eating much now even though her cage temps are good. I put her is a big clay pot filled with soil. She digs a bit but looses interest.

Any thoughts? Am I doing anything wrong or is it just too early?

Thank you,

Brian

Ok, I've never done it in a big clay pot before so I'll just describe what I do and you can compare the conditions to what you've got.

I use a large rubbermaid tub (the really big one, about $10-$15 at walmart) and pile moist dirt about 10-15 inches deep on a slope at one end. Point a light at it to keep it warm and keep spraying it down as it drys out (once or twice a day).

It can take several days for her to decide she's ready to lay. I'd keep her in the lay box when you're home and can keep half an eye on her and then put her in her cage when you leave so she can eat/drink and properly bask.

She has dug a deep and rather large hole. Then she curled up
and fell asleep in it. I finally shut the light off. She
is still in there. I'll turn it on in the morning and
see what happens.

Any thoughts?

Thank you,

Brian

Sounds like she might be getting closer. Sometimes they'll dig "test" holes first before they get down to business. Just keep an eye on her and she'll do her thing when it's time.
