hey!
i am a newbie both to this forum and to boas. after lots of research, i decided to get a hog island boa b/c of their docile nature and smaller size. the one i bought is a girl and i haven't named her yet. she is so pretty with brown saddels and some light speckling. i have read that this speckling is undesireable but i really like the way it looks!
i was just wondering if anyone else can post pics of their hogs. when i get my camera fixed, i will post one too!
thanks!
Nikki

to the forum. Congrats on your new purchase. You do know that boas are like potato chips.......you can't stop at just one.

Don't worry about the speckles, it is all a matter of personal preference. On alot of snakes they add character and interest to that particular animal. In the case of the Hoggs, you won't find many that don't have them. We have a number of boas, and the one that my aunt said she liked the best was the one that would be considered our most "common" looking snake.
Here is a picture of our little girl, Petunia, in one of her lighter phases. She can get lighter than this but also much darker.

Enjoy your new little girl!

on your new boa. Hope you post a picture soon. I too like the speckles on hogg island boas. Most breeders have been breeding that trait out of them. So its nice to some that have them.
Here's a picture of my baby I picked up this past july. He's not a hogg but he has alot of speckles. He is a colombian boa het for albino.

I'm new here to, my third post.
Here's my 6th month old baby quey. He's showing a lot of pink right now. nad if you notice he's got a small bump on his head that is going to get looked at by a vet asap hopefully tomorrow. Hope yours goes good, this is my first boa too. If you want some newbie support i'm here.

Your snakes are all gorgeous! Boas are definitely addictive . . . I have been looking at the Nicaraguans that have a red wash to them. They are just beautiful! Maybe I can afford it someday! Tomorrow I am taking my new girl to a wonderful reptile vet that I know. I want to have a fecal done and maybe check for any external parasites, just in case.
I will post a pic soon!
Thank you!
Nikki
