Ball Python "Wagging" Tail?

tigerlilie2 Nov 12, 2004 02:29 PM

Alright, I know it sounds kinda funny...but my ball python wagged her tail last night! Well, she kinda "wiggled" it. LoL! I was about to feed her a fresh killed mouse and she got into that hunting mode you see when they smell prey, then she wiggled her tail before she took the prey item. I'm guessing it was her excitment of the "chase". Not much of one though when its dead, but I thought I would share this cute experience. She did it for about 30 seconds, so it was brief, but very obvious. Anyone ever experience this before?

Yes Chris she is a rescued mouse...intended as food at first but she kinda grew on me and the fam when she had a litter of babies. What can I say...I'm a softy at heart.

But I notice you didn't list her babies as pets. Can't be too much of a softie to feed her little babies to your snakes. =)

I've seen it in a different setting. I was setting up breeding groups last year and put a 600 g female (which I thought was a male because the person I bought them from switched the bags accidentally) in with a male to stimulate breeding activity. Well she wagged her tail pretty violently as the male came close. I thought it might be a bit of combat mode, but realized later that it must have been unwillingness to breed. Incedentally, that mixed up pair (het pied) are now hooked up, and she is a little larger at 1600 g.
