Bathing box turtles

LonoKing Nov 12, 2004 05:00 PM

does anyone have any suggestion for giving box turtles a bath? i usually rinse mine of with warm water under the faucet after a tank cleaning but the turtle always seems to have a bit of residual dirt on her? any suggestions?

Box turtles don't need to be perfectly clean: is there a reason why you feel it necessary to remove very last speck of dirt?

sometimes i think the turtle's plastron has a bit of her own waste in the hinge...i usually run her under the faucet with warm water..but just wondering if anyone uses something a bit stronger than just plain water...thanks for the response

Water alone should be fine.

Use a toothbrush to brush out the hinge. Do not use the toothbrush in your mouth afterwards.
