Moving to a new cage...

MdngtRain Nov 12, 2004 06:46 PM

I finally have the new cage for my female veiled (i know, I know, took forever, but I have it now...). Anywy, I was wondering; is better to introduce her to her new environment when she is awake? Or (like with chickens) move her while she's sleeping & have her wake up in her new place?

i really don't think it will ultimately matter one way or the other. But i'm thinking to make the stress as low as possible look at your females personality. is she the type of chameleon who likes to roam? sleeping in different spots every night? if so i would do it mid day after she warmed up. if she likes to sleep in the same spot and seems to know her cage well i would probably do it first thing in the morning so that way she can relieve some stress while basking and feeding. this is just my guess.

try putting a couple sticks in her cage and let her roam over to her new cage on her own so she can get comfortable in it. then after the day is done, right before her lights go off move her into her new cage and let her sleep in it.

unfortunatly, the cages are at opposite ends of the apartment... She does like to roam tho, So I may let her out, and when it is time to get some cage time agin, I will place her in the new cage...
Oh, what kind of branches/sticks will stay up in a reptarium?

veiledchamlver Nov 12, 2004 08:48 PM

in my rep i use flukers bend-a-branch. or i find sticks from out side and make it push against both sides of the screen to make it stay up. if it is a skinny stick i will cut a hle just big enough for the stick to slide in. the best thing i like for reps is to rn vines al across it making it like a real jungle. what size rep do you have.

Dowel rods are cheap and easy to disinfect. I recommend lightly sanding them as well.
