Golden Corn snake - full body shot. . .

BlueKing Nov 12, 2004 06:56 PM

Slowly getting the hang of this new camera I bought a week ago, LOL! Someone wanted to see the 'whole enchilada'! So here is a full body shot of the wild caught "golden" cornsnake. She is about 43" long and eating great as most cornsnakes do! Enjoy.

Cool snake. Looks like a wild caught Caramel. I have seen a few pop out of the wild in he last few years that look like that. Very cool as if it is, it certainly strengthens the caramel bloodlines.

You have actually seen a few "pop" out of the wild that look like that?
Where have you seen these?

Hey you know you have to breed her to a normal male that isnt HET for anything, and then breed a male offspring back to her to see if that is genetic!!
That is a really nice looking corn snake. An awesome natural morph!! Thanks for posting a pic!

Thanks for the compliments. As I wish all of you would share pics of your unusual finds so the rest of the world can see some of the rare/beautiful finds that are bound to happen with so many of us looking and breeding!
Breeding? - well - I may have to search the same area again in the spring, as this female appears to be old/big enough to have had some babies this year. . . Maybe I'll get lucky enough to find one of her (male) offspring (that didn't get eaten or killed by feral cats, possums, armadillos, foxes, coyotes, dogs, hawks, large rodents, bullfrogs, snakes, fire ants, cars, four wheelers, terrified kids, horses, cows, lawnmowers, natural disasters, etc etc.) Oh well, maybe the odds are NOT in my favor at all, but then again this is in the same county where I found a black & white mudsnake and an all orange eastern garter snake all in the same month along with that yellow corn snake. . .

Has there been any dumping of unknown chemicals in that area??? Sweet finds! =]

BlueKing Nov 13, 2004 02:17 PM

I live out in the country and have well water, so I hope I don't turn purple or something like that down the road! I wonder if this is where they filmed "Children of the corn"! LOL!

add me to the list for her offspring.....she is one of the few corns, that actually appeal and make me want one (oh yea and the paradox albino if it is genetic)

would love to see the orange garter also......

black and white mudsnakes are occasionally found here in florida also....but mudnsakes in genereal arent too commonly found....cept after a rain

Found this one about a week after I found the yellow corn within 200 feet of the same spot! (No photo tricks were used - Not even a flash! Took this pic today with the sun shining.)

Breeding her to a completely unrelated male (thereby using him as a blank test subject), hoping for completely normal looking babies (if they're more yellow than normal, it may suggest her coloration is of line breeding rather than a genetic factor), then breeding those babies back to her and to each other is the very best way to determine as quickly as possible whether she is something that is genetically reproduceable.

I agree that she doesn't seem to favor the caramels that you see in other colonies, so I doubt that she is a wild caught caramel. After you have bred her to a male that is completely unrelated and not het for anything else (that a wild caught male from another area would be PERFECT!), you then could breed her to a known caramel, to make certain that she is indeed distinct in her genetics.

Finds like this don't often occur, so I know you have to be very excited about the possibilities. I know I would be!!!

Zee, Congratulations on a great find!

I have to disagree with some of you. It is yellow, but it doesn’t look like any Caramel that I have ever seen. This is a very odd looking snake. It appears as if somehow the red pigment has been separated out from the orange and the yellow ground color was left. The Anery genes take the red and orange pigments away and we are left with a gray and black corn. This snake seems to have retained some of the normal coloration.

When she breeds for you next year, I would love to get some of the normal looking babies from her. If I lived where you do, I think I would be cruising that road almost everyday, hoping to find a golden mate for her.

awesome snake

BlueKing Nov 15, 2004 07:15 PM

so I'm glad some of you guys are! Based on your responses I will make the correct decision and breed with an unrelated male. Would it be better to breed with one of the males that I found within a mile of her or one that was found in another county perhaps??? Your opinions?
Thanks a lot once again for all the great input/comments

a relative are reduced as much as possible! I will use a male from another location. . . (As fat as I have gotten her, any chances for a double clutch? (so I can use another male in the same year - perhaps a caramel?) Just wondering. . .

Thanks,

Zee

panther13half Nov 18, 2004 12:30 PM

but dont let this stop you from trying

and she may double very easily.....

good luck

Yeah, you're probably right . . . Someone that has done this several times (with corns) just told me yesterday that it hasn't worked for him yet . . .
I guess, I'll have to wait an extra year for the second male's genes to be passed/mixed on . . .
